Terms & Conditions
Last updated- 21 January 2026
These Terms & Conditions explain the rules for using the Blackcrest Ventures website and purchasing and using our software products.
Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. Business Information
Blackcrest Ventures is a trading name of Tony Livins, a sole trader operating in the United Kingdom.
2. Our Products
Blackcrest Ventures develops digital software products, including TraceLab Forensics v1.0.0.
TraceLab Forensics is a Windows desktop application intended for forensic science education, academic research and hypothetical investigations.
Product functionality, technical requirements and limitations are described on the relevant product page.
3. Educational and Research Use
TraceLab Forensics is designed to support learning, structured documentation, scientific reasoning and research.
It is not represented as a validated forensic examination, identification, evidential certification or guilt-assessment system.
The software must not be relied upon as the sole basis for legal proceedings, criminal accusations, clinical decisions or other high-stakes determinations.
Users remain responsible for their interpretations, decisions and compliance with applicable laws, institutional policies and professional requirements.
4. Pricing and Payment
The advertised base price for TraceLab Forensics v1.0.0 is GBP 39.99 for a one-time purchase, subject to applicable taxes and the final total shown at checkout.
Purchases are processed using Stripe Checkout.
For eligible purchases made through Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe acts as merchant of record. The applicable checkout terms, customer-facing seller information and transaction records should be reviewed during purchase.
We do not collect payment card numbers directly through our website.
5. Digital Delivery
Software is supplied electronically. No physical product is shipped.
After successful payment and order processing, customers are normally provided with a digital download link through SendOwl.
Customers should provide an accurate email address and check their inbox and spam folder for delivery instructions.
If a valid purchase has not been delivered, customers should contact customer support with their order details.
6. Software Licence
A purchase grants a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the purchased software for lawful educational, research or internal use.
This licence does not transfer ownership of the software or its underlying intellectual property.
Unless separately authorised in writing, customers must not:
- Redistribute or resell the installer or software licence.
- Publish the software as their own work.
- Share purchased download links for unauthorised distribution.
- Remove or falsify copyright or ownership notices.
- Use the software for unlawful purposes.
Nothing in these terms limits rights expressly permitted by applicable law.
7. Licence Scope and Updates
A one-time purchase provides access to the purchased product version as described at checkout.
Unless expressly advertised, the purchase does not include guaranteed lifetime updates, future major versions, unlimited technical support or subscription services.
Any updates or support that Blackcrest Ventures makes available will be described through the relevant product or support channels.
8. System Requirements
TraceLab Forensics v1.0.0 is distributed as a Windows desktop application.
Customers should review the published system requirements and product description before purchase.
We cannot guarantee compatibility with every device, security configuration or software environment. This does not affect statutory rights where the software fails to meet its description or applicable legal requirements.
9. Cancellation and Refunds
UK consumers buying digital content online may ordinarily have a 14-day cancellation right.
Where digital content is supplied before this period ends, the cancellation right may be lost only where the applicable legal requirements have been satisfied, including express consent to immediate supply, acknowledgement of the loss of cancellation rights and the required contract confirmation.
The mere purchase or downloading of the product does not, by itself, mean that all cancellation rights have been waived.
Customers also retain applicable statutory rights if digital content is faulty, not as described or otherwise fails to meet legal requirements.
Depending on the circumstances, available remedies may include repair, replacement, price reduction or a refund.
To request cancellation, report a defect or discuss a refund, contact customer support or use the relevant Stripe purchase-support process shown in your receipt.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts mandatory consumer rights.
10. Customer Responsibilities
Customers agree to use the software lawfully and responsibly.
Users are responsible for the information they enter into their own case records, notebooks and evidence records.
Users should avoid entering personal or sensitive information unless they have an appropriate lawful basis for doing so.
11. Intellectual Property
The TraceLab Forensics name, original software code, documentation, visual materials and related creative content are protected by applicable intellectual property laws where relevant.
Third-party components remain subject to their respective licences and notices.
Purchasing the software does not grant rights to reproduce or commercially distribute proprietary components.
12. Availability and Changes
We may improve, update or discontinue product features, website content or delivery arrangements.
Any changes will be made subject to applicable customer rights and existing contractual commitments.
13. Liability
We take reasonable care in developing our software, but no application can be guaranteed to be entirely free from defects.
The software is not a substitute for independently validated forensic procedures or qualified professional judgement.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Nothing in these terms removes mandatory consumer remedies under UK law.
14. Privacy
Information about our processing of personal data is available in our Privacy Policy.
15. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to mandatory legal protections that apply to customers in other jurisdictions.
Nothing in this section removes any jurisdictional or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these terms to reflect legal requirements, changes in our services or operational developments.
Updated terms will be published with a revised effective date. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights arising under completed purchases.
